Description: Henry is a young boy whose best friend is his Saint Bernard, Mudge. In this fifth book of the series the companions enjoy winter festivities. They have fun playing in the first snow of the winter season; they dress up for Christmas Eve dinner and they enjoy taking a walk on a winter evening when it is quiet and peaceful.
1. One characteristic of a series is that they offer enticing plots (Chance, p. 36). In Henry and Mudge books these two characters are always doing something fun or making an ordinary event, like walking outside at night on a winter night, a fun activity to do.
2. Another characteristic of a series is that they tend to appeal to both genders (Chance, p. 36). In Henry and Mudge it appeals to both boys and girls. The amusing adventures with a funny dog
delights both genders. Mudge rolling in the snow and howling in the bedroom because he wanted to share Christmas dinner makes kids laugh.
This book will delight early readers with its humor. Also, the easy to read text with large, black text on a white background with ample spacing will help beginners to read on their own.
